Barriers and facilitators to implementing a process to enable parent escalation of care for the deteriorating child in hospital.

Prior research has shown that parents can be valuable partners in safety, identifying adverse events and errors not captured by other means. Investigators studied the implementation of a parent escalation of care process in a pediatric hospital. Although there was support for the process among staff, barriers included a low level of parent awareness of the process and concerns about parents' abilities to accurately identify clinical concerns.
