This 27-page guide provides basic information and resources about the Zika virus as a starting place for Tribes wanting to learn more and work to address this issue in their communities. Because of the potential effect Zika can have on the next generation of children, it is important for Tribal communities to be aware of Zika so that individual people and Tribes can be prepared to take action to prevent Zika and, if necessary, respond to any Zika cases that arise.

This 26-page action plan was designed by the Kaw Nation to help tribal health clinics and other tribal organizations in holding a tribal Community Zika Action Event. It provides background information about the Zika virus, and details how to organize an event that will help communities reduce mosquito populations, protect against mosquito bites, and slow the spread of Zika and other diseases caused by mosquitoes.

The National Indian Health Board, in collaboration with Area Indian Health Boards and with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, held four Tribal, State, and Local Zika Collaboration Meetings in 2018: In February in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and in June in San Diego, California; San Francisco, California; and Albuquerque, New Mexico. This Web page provides presentations and resources from those meetings, including about Cross-Jurisdictional Collaboration for Emergency Planning,Tribal Health Systems and the Role of Tribal Epidemiology Centers, and Vector-Borne Diseases.
