CELEBRATING VOICES OF TREATMENT, RECOVERY

In 2016, more than 11 million adults said they lived with mental illness, and more than 7 million children and youth were diagnosed with serious emotional disturbances. Even so, stigma and isolation can prevent our friends, family members and neighbors from getting the care they need. Faith-based providers and communities play a key role in prevention, referral to treatment and recovery support.

That's why on Aug. 8, 2018, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) hosted the 2018 Voice Awards program to showcase that recovery is real and possible through treatment and recovery supports. Hosts Rick and Kay Warren honored people in recovery, as well as people who are improving the lives of others living with mental illnesses, substance use disorders, or both. The awards program also recognized television and film productions that help to educate the public about behavioral health.  Read more>>
  • "Healing is hard to come by when you can't open up and discuss what’s happening to you, can't tell people you love the most what you are feeling or what you need. We have to talk about everything, without shame and without blame." — Rick Warren
  • Faith communities can play a huge role in helping people talk about what they’re going through. We believe in honesty, transparency & forgiveness. We’re encouraging other faith leaders to help change the dialogue about mental illness and addiction." — Kay Warren
  • "It was a beautiful event! The award winners are all remarkable people – their stories (you only heard a small portion on the show) are painful and unbelievably sad, yet what they have done with their previously broken lives filled us with hope. We were honored to get to know them and to be a part of celebrating the meaning, purpose and good work they are doing." — Kay Warren
