Implementation of safeguards to improve patient safety in chemotherapy.
In this study, investigators implemented a multimodal intervention to improve the safety of chemotherapy administration that included staff training, computerized provider order entry with pharmacist review, barcode medication administration, standardization, and access to information about medications. Following the intervention, the error rate declined by 10%. The authors suggest implementing this type of comprehensive intervention to prevent errors from reaching patients.
