California lawmakers eye a flavored tobacco ban
California lawmakers are slated to roll out a bill today that would ban the sale of flavored tobacco in retail stores and vending machines across the state. More than two dozen California cities and counties already restrict the sale of flavored tobacco products, but the new measure would penalize any store in the state that sells them. The Democratic lawmakers behind the bill say they're hoping it'll help bring down the soaring rate of e-cigarette use among young people. The FDA is trying to tackle that same issue nationwide. Last month, the agency announced plans to limit sales of most flavored e-cigarettes in retail stores by requiring shops that sell vapes to have either age-restricted entry or separate areas that minors can’t enter.
