Good morning, folks! Megan here, back from vacation and ready to get you ahead of the day's news in health and medicine.

China agrees to tighten restrictions on fentanyl

The Chinese government has agreed to reclassify fentanyl as a controlled substance and says it’s working with the U.S. to “strengthen cooperation on law enforcement and narcotics control." The decision followed a meeting between President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Argentina this weekend during the G20 Summit. The Trump administration has taken aim at China as the main source of illicit fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that has contributed to a growing number of overdose deaths. The White House says the move will mean people in China who sell fentanyl to the U.S. "will be subject to China's maximum penalty under the law."
