This 202-page document, coordinated by the Food Security Information Network (FSIN), is a major collaborative effort between numerous agencies in the international humanitarian and development community to share their data, analysis, knowledge, and expertise regarding people facing food crises. It highlights the plight of millions of people who must fight every day against acute hunger and malnutrition, and points the way toward solutions that can rebuild lives and livelihoods in communities around the world.The FSIN is a neutral global technical platform co-sponsored by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). This nine-page compendium features stories from three local health departments that have prepared for and responded to complex water emergencies in their communities: City of Milwaukee Health Department, Wisconsin; Washington County Public Health, Oregon; and Public Health–Seattle and King County, Washington. Recent water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) emergencies have demonstrated the importance of preparedness, and these examples can be used as learning opportunities to prepare water utility companies, public health departments, and emergency managers for future water emergencies.
