Evaluating the effect of data standardization and validation on patient matching accuracy.
This study examined whether use of data standardization for electronic health recordinformation would lead to better patient matching across health information exchange records, public health registry records, social security death records, and newborn screening records. Researchers found that using recommended standards for entering demographic data improved matching of individuals across databases and thereby enhanced patient safety through information availability.
