These aren’t the kind of congressional quotes pharma wants to see


“I don’t know how you people sleep at night,” Rep. Jan Schakowsky told a panel of drug makers and PBMs yesterday, tidily encapsulating the tone of a brutal House subcommittee hearing on the rising cost of insulin.

As STAT’s Nicholas Florko reports, it was three hours of pointed words and pointed fingers, as the industry’s now-familiar defense — manufacturers blame PBMs and PBMs blame manufacturers — found little quarter among Democrats and Republicans alike. There was ire, contempt, and threats of sweeping legislation. One member even suggested nationalizing PBMs.

“You should look at some of those statements as real expressions of frustration,” said Rep. Diana DeGette, the committee’s charwoman.
