What does safety commitment mean to leaders? A multi-method investigation.
This interview and survey study sought to characterize health care leaders' safety commitment. Researchers identified commitment to safety as a combination of emotional impetus to do right by others (affective commitment), a moral obligation (normative commitment), and awareness of the cost of adverse events (calculative commitment). They conclude that the affective component of leadership commitment to safety best translates into an organization safety culture.
