Attacks on health care workers globally are increasing
Attacks against health care workers in 2018 have risen for the second year in a row, a new report finds. The organization documented at least 973 attacks — 167 of whom were killed — across 23 countries. The most attacks on hospitals occurred in Syria, and the most health care workers were killed there and in Afghanistan. The report comes amid continued attacks against Ebola health workers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo as well as attacks on health workers administering polio vaccines in Pakistan. The report’s authors call on the UN Security Council to impose sanctions on perpetrators of violent acts against health care workers.
