This 38-page guidance provides support on how to strengthen inclusion of disability in Humanitarian Response Plans (HRPs) as part of the UK Department for International Development (DFID) Humanitarian Investment Program. The aim of this work is to make humanitarian programming more responsive to the needs of people with disabilities affected by crisis. More substantive work on the inclusion of persons with disabilities will need to continue concurrently to this initiative, including in relation to how disability-inclusive projects are designed, how they can be monitored, and what disability-inclusive humanitarian evaluation would involve. To make sure that effective prevention and control programs are implemented for the prioritized diseases, a platform to strengthen collaborations among animal and human health agencies needs to be created. This four-page issue brief provides information about the development of a sample processing approach to enable accurate ricin analysis. During ricin incidents in 2014-2015, the EPA Office of Emergency Management (OEM) faced difficulties with getting the post-decontamination samples analyzed by desired and appropriate methods. While providing the technical support, the EPA’s National Homeland Security Research Center (NHSRC) determined that inclusion of a sample processing method is needed to clean up the post-bleach-decontamination samples before the analysis.
