Do you have the genes to be an entrepreneur?

Speaking of crowding in consumer genetics, that’s the question at the heart of the Entrepreneur Gene Project, a U.K. endeavor that aims to find out whether starting a business has a DNA component.

The plan is to collect saliva samples, genotype them, and then have participants take a 15-minute survey on “their entrepreneurial history, career history, and personality traits that might be linked to entrepreneurialism,” according to a fact sheet. Then comes the matter of figuring out “whether there are genetic variations that are statistically more common in the entrepreneurs than the non-entrepreneurs.”

The company doing the analysis, DNAFit, has in the past stoked skepticism about its genetic tests related to diet and athletic ability. And the idea of isolating the genetic roots any behavioral trait has been controversial to say the least. But at least this one will be fast: The Entrepreneur Gene Project promises to reveal its results this summer.
