The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has published a series of reports regarding adverse events experienced by Medicare beneficiaries in different health care settings.  A list of adverse and temporary harm events in long-term-care hospitals that were identified by the OIG as potentially preventable is now available at https://pso.ahrq.gov/commonThe list can be used to raise awareness of a broad range of adverse and temporary harm events and to encourage reporting of such events for the purpose of learning and reducing patient harm.
