This three-page report on cases of smallpox is based on data for 2017 retrieved from The European Surveillance System (TESSy) on December 11, 2018. Smallpox was declared eradicated in 1980. There were no reports of confirmed or possible smallpox in the European Union/European Economic Area or other countries for 2017. (PDF)

This 57-minute webinar, part of the Emergency Partners Information Connection (EPIC) series, discusses how to prepare for the summer travel season, including diseases to look out for in different parts of the world, suggested vaccinations, what’s new in travel medicine, and other health considerations. Current diseases of concern includes measles, Dengue, Ebola, and drug-resistant infections. This 175-page report seeks to provide an independent, actionable assessment of the potential of vaccines to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and encourages greater attention, focus, and funding for vaccine development against pathogens whose resistance to antimicrobial medicines was identified by the World Health Organization as posing the greatest threat to human health. By employing a carefully considered prioritization framework to evaluate these pathogens, this report enables comprehensive comparisons across pathogens. This was a joint project between the Wellcome Trust and BCG, building on the World Health Organization’s efforts to tackle antimicrobial resistance. (PDF)
