Here’s how drug pricing legislation passes both chambers
The two most powerful members of the Senate Finance Committee see a way forward when it comes to legislation on drug pricing, uniting Republicans and Democrats in an effort leaders say could clear both chambers.
Speaking at an Axios event Wednesday, Sen. Chuck Grassley, the Republican who chairs the committee, said his “good working relationship” with ranking member Sen. Ron Wyden and other Democrats presents a “real opportunity” to change the law when it comes to drug pricing.
But don’t expect any of the sweeping changes proposed by Democrats. To the extent there’s bipartisan consensus, it’s on piecemeal reforms that would limit how much seniors spend on drugs, promote generic competition, and increase transparency over how much medicines actually cost.
