New Enhancements Added to the Mapping Medicare Disparities Tool

MMD Tool Map
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Office of Minority Health has expanded the Mapping Medicare Disparities (MMD) Tool to include several new enhancements to the Population and Hospital Views.

In the Population View, we added and stratified five inpatient utilization measures that will allow users to view the average inpatient days per admission, patient safety indicator admissions, the percentage of admission types, the percentage of discharge destinations, and average Medicare fee-for-service reimbursements. We updated the American Community Survey data profile pages, and made other updates to enhance the user experience.

In the Hospital View, we added six new hospital quality measures including: four effective care measures, severe sepsis and septic shock management, and pneumonia, heart failure, and acute myocardial infarction excess days in acute care; a hip/knee complication measure; and the payment-standardized Medicare fee-for-service spending per beneficiary measure. Finally, we updated all Hospital Compare measures included in the Tool from the most recent data available.

Why use our MMD Tool? You can view and download maps and data files to learn more about health outcomes in your community! The web-based Mapping Medicare Disparities (MMD) Tool Population View provides health outcome measures for disease prevalence, costs, and hospitalization for 60 specific chronic conditions, emergency department utilization, readmissions rates, mortality rates, and preventable hospitalizations. The Hospital View provides quality measures by hospital and allows comparison with other hospitals and areas.
