This six-page document summarizes the meeting on July 17, 2019, of the Emergency Committee convened by the WHO Director-General under the International Health Regulations (IHR) (2005) regarding Ebola virus disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The Committee is concerned that a year into the outbreak, there are worrying signs of possible extension of the epidemic. It was the view of the Committee that a coordinated international response under the International Health Regulations (2005) is required. Thus, the conditions for a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) under the IHR (2005) have been met. (PDF)

This six-page report on cases of tularemia is based on data for 2017 retrieved from The European Surveillance System (TESSy) on December 11, 2018. In 2017, 447 cases of tularemia were reported by 18 countries in the European Union/European Economic Area, 413 (92 percent) of which were confirmed. Tularemia is widely distributed throughout most of Europe, where the ingestion of contaminated water is the main transmission route of the disease. (PDF)

This 21-page protocol provides health care and public health professionals guidance on how to investigate the role of environmental contamination during outbreaks of MERS-CoV (Middle East respiratory syndrome-coronavirus) in a health care setting where a patient infected with MERS-CoV is currently being treated. The results from such studies will be used in risk assessment and risk management of MERS-CoV hospital-acquired infections, and also for guiding the implementation and monitoring of effectiveness of infection prevention and control measures.
