Experiential learning through local implementation of a national chief resident in quality and patient safety curriculum.
Integrating patient safety content into existing residency curricula is challenging. This commentary describes a collaborative effort to develop leadership and quality improvement skills as part of a patient safety rotation for chief residents. The curriculum uses investigation, mentorship, and experiential learning as key educational tactics. The authors review challenges to implementing the program and highlight successes.
