Get ready for Nancy Pelosi's drug pricing plan

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to unveil her long-awaited drug pricing plan as soon as this week, ending months of speculation about Democrats' response to President Trump's agitation for lower pharmaceutical costs. 

STAT reported last week that a leaked version of the plan was a win for House progressives. As written, the bill would let the federal government negotiate the price of 250 medicines and offer that price to commercial buyers; cap drug prices based on an international index; and likely put manufacturers on the hook for a greater share of Medicare's drug spending. 

Pelosi's plan is dramatically more aggressive than a competing proposal in the Republican-controlled Senate, however, and there's still plenty of skepticism in Washington that the two parties can work together on impactful legislation.
