Inside STAT: Stephen Hahn, the FDA frontrunner, has a knack for confronting controversy
Who is Dr. Stephen Hahn, who is being considered for the position of FDA commissioner? A veteran cancer researcher, Hahn's last formal appearance in the nation's capital was to apologize to Congress for a series of medical violations by a doctor who had been under Hahn's supervision. That was at the University of Pennsylvania, but controversies have followed him to his current position at MD Anderson Cancer Center, which was found to be in violation of federal rules for hospital quality. But through it all, Hahn has proven to be a gregarious man with political savvy his allies say will serve him well if chosen for the top job at the FDA.
