Many glaucoma patients report living with anxiety about having the condition
Two-thirds of people with glaucoma report in a small survey that the disease, which can lead to vision loss and blindness because of damage to the optic nerve, impacts their lives on a daily basis. Some three-quarters of the patients surveyed are extremely concerned about losing their vision; those under age 65 were more likely to report anger, depression, and worry than older patients. When it comes to treatment, about 53% say they maintain the optimal eye pressure needed to control the disease. About a third say they skip their regular eye drops at least two or three times a month.
