Alzheimer's Association looks to the future
The Alzheimer’s Association has been pushing for a cure for the neurodegenerative disease for more than 40 years. Today, however, there’s still no treatment to slow its progression — and there’s increasing doubt about the fundamental theories about how the disease manifests.
STAT's Andrew Joseph paid a visit the Alzheimer's Association recently to find out how the organization views the current research landscape. Executives were perhaps unsurprisingly upbeat, arguing that the groundwork is finally in place to ultimately develop effective therapies. “We now have momentum unlike we’ve ever had in this field before,” Harry Johns, the association’s CEO, said.
