Free CE Course – 10 Year Anniversary of FDA’s Bad Ad Program

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is pleased to announce the 10 year anniversary of the Bad Ad Program. Since 2010, FDA’s Office of Prescription Drug Promotion has worked to educate healthcare providers about the important role they can play in helping FDA ensure that prescription drug advertising and promotion is truthful, balanced, and accurately communicated.

Prescription drug promotion can have a significant impact on healthcare providers. According to Syneos Health PromotionalAnswers, in 2017, the pharmaceutical industry spent more than $24 billion on prescription drug promotion, with more than $18.5 billion allotted for marketing to healthcare providers. Although prescription drug promotion can provide valuable information about drug therapies, it is essential that it be truthful, balanced, and not misleading, because healthcare providers may consider this information when making treatment decisions for their patients.

The Bad Ad Program continues to raise awareness among healthcare providers about potentially false or misleading prescription drug promotion while also providing them with an easy way to report it to FDA. As part of the program, FDA is offering a free 1-hour accredited continuing education course online and has developed real-life case studies to help healthcare providers and students learn how to recognize and report potentially false or misleading prescription drug promotion.

For more information about the Bad Ad Program, continuing education course, and real-life case studies, please visit the Bad Ad Program webpage. To report potentially false or misleading prescription drug promotion please contact the Bad Ad Program at 855-RX-BADAD or BadAd@fda.gov.
