The tide is turning against the use of certain synthetic food dyes in the US food supply. What started as a state-driven movement now has the support of the federal government, and if the rhetoric holds true, a large part of the food industry as well. While the research on health risks of synthetic dyes has been mixed, the movement toward removal of synthetic food dyes from the food supply has been positioned by Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as the first step in a larger project to “make American healthy again.”
