AHRQ Stats: Trends in Sepsis-Related In-Hospital Stays
Among adults aged 65 and older, the total number of sepsis nonmaternal inpatient stays steadily increased by 44.2 percent between 2016 and 2022 (from 1,007,000 to 1,452,000 discharges). The number of stays among those aged 18 to 64 increased in the same time frame, peaking at 1,024,000 in 2021, then dropping to 895,000 in 2022.
