What Does the Growing Use of Artificial Intelligence Mean for Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health and Health Care?
A new KFF issue brief examines how the growing use of Artificial Intelligence tools may affect racial and ethnic disparities in health and health care.
The brief reviews recent studies to discuss how AI can exacerbate health disparities and promote racial and ethnic health misinformation if the underlying data on which models are built are biased and/or not inclusive. Alternatively, some research suggests that AI may help mitigate racial and ethnic disparities in health if it is carefully designed. This brief also discusses factors that can help reduce AI-related bias in health care.
