When did your last menstrual period start? Are you here against your will? These are the questions we ask nearly every patient who comes to the emergency department. We ask because the room is supposed to be a safe one. The clinician is bound by the Hippocratic Oath, and the patient, in turn, entrusts us with their honesty and vulnerability.
