FDA showcases refreshed Drug Shortages web page - Drug Information Update
The FDA‘s redesigned Drug Shortages web page is easy to use and allows users to quickly locate current drug shortages and other important information. The new look and organization of content direct users to current information quickly while still providing access to important reports and historical data. As the agency continues to work to reduce drug shortages and their effects, this web page redesign will improve overall communication with the public and feature an area to highlight the most recent shortage.
In light of recent shortages related to last fall’s hurricanes and vital drugs such as sodium bicarbonate and EpiPen, FDA’s efforts to prevent and mitigate drugs shortages have become increasingly important to public health. The agency’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research’s Drug Shortages Staff (DSS) addresses potential or actual shortages of drugs that have a significant impact on public health. Through communication, facilitation and negotiation, DSS works with pharmaceutical manufacturers, review divisions, compliance and other components of FDA to manage product shortages.
