Delivering HIV Prevention and Care to Transgender People, the latest CME/CEU from CDC’s Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention/Act Against AIDS initiative, shares the latest information on HIV prevention and care for transgender people, as well as strategies that health care providers can implement in their practices to help make clinical environments more welcoming to transgender people.

Upon completion of this CME/CEU program, participants will have increased knowledge and be able to:
  • Discuss and address patient concerns regarding interactions between antiretroviral medications and affirming hormonal therapies.
  • Define gender identity and other appropriate terms to use when discussing transgender health.
  • List health disparities among transgender people and describe the role that stigma and discrimination play in creating them.
  • Summarize strategies to make clinical environments more welcoming to transgender people.
Learn more about and complete this CME/CEU by visiting the National LGBT Health Education Center.
In addition to a CME, DHAP just released a NEW website called Transforming Health. This online resource aims to reach health care providers to help them deliver patient-centered HIV care to transgender people. You can find information for health care providers on key topics such as how to make your practice welcoming for transgender patients, HIV prevention, collecting sexual orientation and gender identity data, taking a sexual history, HIV testing, risk reduction strategies and the HIV care continuum. Information for patients includes HIV prevention and care strategies and video testimonials from transgender people.
