E-cigarette giant Juul is facing a fresh round of scrutiny after the FDA announced it had carried out a surprise inspection of the company’s San Francisco headquarters last week and seized hundreds of pages of documents tied to the company’s marketing practices. The FDA has previously asked Juul for information about how its products might appeal to minors. Last month, FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said youth use of the devices "has reached an epidemic proportion" and threatened to take flavored vaping products off the market if companies like Juul can’t stop minors from using them.
Meanwhile, the CDC published new data that shows sales of Juul grew more than sevenfold from 2016 to 2017, accounting for the biggest chunk of the U.S. e-cig market of any single manufacturer.
