Inside STAT: Patient 'influencers' on social media are a new frontier for drug ads

Celebrities, former reality TV stars, and other so-called influencers have found ways to monetize their social media fame. Now, the pharmaceutical industry has caught on to that concept. Companies have cropped up with the goal of linking drug makers, both big and small, with "micro-influencers." They're people with small but devoted followings who might be interested in promoting their products — or who might be open to sharing valuable insights about the patient community.
