The next Congress, drug prices, & prices in TV ads

“It’s incredibly patronizing to think that the patient will not make a wise decision for herself.” That’s what Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana had to say about the drug industry’s arguments that a plan to put drug prices in TV ads would discourage patients from seeking care. Cassidy made the remarks at a STAT event in Washington on Thursday about drug pricing and the incoming Congress. Cassidy also outlined his plans for a bill that would allow states and payers to use a “Netflix model” to purchase drugs (read more about Cassidy's remarks here), while another panel featured some sparring over the Trump administration’s proposal to tie how much the U.S. pays for some drugs to the prices in other countries.
