CDC Externships in Public Health Law

CDC’s Public Health Law Program (PHLP) offers externships in public health law, tribal public health, and administration and communications. The externships consist of 9–14 weeks of professional work experience with PHLP in Atlanta, Georgia. With rolling start and completion dates during the academic year, unpaid externships must qualify for academic credit as authorized by law and public health schools. Applications for summer 2019 positions are due by January 31, 2019.

CDC Publishes 2016 Healthcare-Associated Infection Progress Report

CDC’s Healthcare-Associated Infection Progress Report details, on a national and state-by-state basis, data on healthcare-associated infections—infections that patients can contract at a healthcare facility. This report also highlights progress and areas that need improvement.

Webinar: Using Law and Policy as Tools to Support Healthy Aging in Healthy Communities

The Healthy People Law and Health Policy Project will host a webinar December 11, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm (EST), to examine legal and policy approaches to healthy aging. Panelists will share strategies that encourage healthy homes and communities for older adults. Additionally, disability laws and protections that support older adults’ participation in communities will be discussed.

NACCHO Deadline for Model Practices

The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) has a Model Practices Program that celebrates outstanding local public health practices and publishes them on the Model Practices Database. Model Practices winners will be recognized at the NACCHO Annual 2019 Grand Awards Ceremony. The deadline to apply for the 2019 Model Practices Program is December 12.

Health in All Policies Webinar Series: Evaluation Strategies

NACCHO is also hosting a webinar titled “Health in All Policies: Evaluation Strategies” on Wednesday, December 12, at 2:00 pm (EST). Dr. Lauren Gase will present on strategies for developing health policies and lead a discussion to address challenges individuals may face when evaluating their proposals.
