This 62-page report, the seventh edition of the annual report, offers practical insights into preparedness to support decisions about program priorities, resource allocation, and community actions. It evaluates progress and challenges that individuals and communities, private and nonprofit sectors, faith-based organizations, and all levels of government have faced in preparedness. The 2018 edition presents a revised approach that includes an in-depth analysis of five core capabilities that have been identified in past National Preparedness Reports as facing persistent challenges: Operational Coordination, Infrastructure Systems, Housing, Economic Recovery, and Cybersecurity. This seven-page report details the need to deliver contraception in the “spaces in between” in humanitarian settings – where traditional approaches to health system strengthening are inadequate. As the number of people in humanitarian settings grows, there is a critical need for practical examples of how to effectively deliver contraception at every stage of crisis, from emergency preparedness to emergency response and recovery. The report is a synthesis of approaches that have worked and, if replicated and taken to scale, can meet the needs of the millions of women and girls across the humanitarian-development nexus. (PDF)
