Remember Steve Burrill?
G. Steven Burrill used to be a must-see draw at the annual BIO conference, running a venture fund, a merchant bank, and a biotech publication while raising more than $1 billion to put into startups.
Now he’s headed to federal prison. Yesterday a federal judge sentenced Burrill to 30 months in prison after the high-profile investor pleaded guilty to pilfering money from his fund and lying about his income to tax authorities.
Burrill faced up to 30 years and $750,000 in fines, but prosecutors dismissed a series of charges after he struck a sealed plea deal last year.
