A biotech VC firm gets a surprise from Washington


According to Trump administration, the biotech-focused 6 Dimensions Capital is among a group of Chinese VCs that "make no secret of their intention to access U.S. technology" by investing in stateside companies.

That came as a shock to 6 Dimensions CEO Leon Chen and his firm's managing partners, all of whom are naturalized U.S. citizens who he says were never contacted by the U.S. trade representative that accused them of being agents of the Chinese government.

“We should be the last target for this kind of accusation,” Chen told STAT's Rebecca Robbins.

The confusion comes as new rules governing foreign investment in U.S. companies threatens to imperil domestic companies seeking to raise money from Chinese financiers.
