WHO leader orders misconduct investigation

The WHO’s director-general has ordered an internal investigation into allegations of racism, sexism, and corruption at the global health organization. The investigation, first reported by the Associated Press, was sparked by a series of anonymous emails sent to leaders of the U.N. health agency last year. The emails leveled a slew of charges, including that the WHO systematically discriminated against African staff, misspent money for the Ebola response in DRC, and attempted to “stifle” inquiries into possible misconduct. Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told the AP the investigators “have all my support,” but critics have called for an independent investigation.
