U.S. residents infected with drug-resistant bacteria after surgeries in Tijuana

Health officials say they've received reports of drug-resistant infections among U.S. residents who've traveled to Tijuana, Mexico, for medical procedures, mainly weight-loss surgeries. Ten people in six states have been infected with drug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which is difficult to treat and doesn't respond to most common antibiotics. Some of the patients developed infections after surgery at Grand View Hospital in Tijuana, while others fell ill after surgery in other health facilities. The CDC says people traveling to Mexico shouldn't have surgery at Grand View Hospital until Mexican officials confirm the drug-resistant form of the bacteria is no longer a risk.
