Measles outbreak in Washington continues to grow

The number of cases in a measles outbreak in southwest Washington is climbing. There have been 30 confirmed cases in the outbreak, which has been fueled by low vaccination rates in the area. At least 26 of the people infected — many of whom were children under age 10 — hadn't been vaccinated against measles. On Friday, Gov. Jay Inslee declared a statewide public health emergency amid concerns the outbreak could quickly spread to other areas, including nearby Portland. Health officials say people who might have been exposed to measles traveled to the Portland airport, a Portland Trail Blazers game, and other busy areas.
