FDA approves first-ever device for ADHD treatment

The FDA has approved the first non-drug therapy for ADHD, a device that electrically stimulates the trigeminal nerve via a patch on the forehead. The device, called the Monarch eTNS System, was approved for people 7 to 12 years old who aren’t on an ADHD drug. It’s not totally clear how the device works, the FDA said, but neuroimaging studies showed the stimulation increases activity in areas of the brain tied to regulating attention, emotion, and behavior.

The FDA has also approved a generic version of nasal spray naloxone, the opioid overdose reversal medication. Pricing information was not immediately available.
