Federal judge issues injunction against proposed changes to Title X
A federal judge in Washington state issued a preliminary injunction late yesterday against the Trump administration’s proposed changes to Title X, the family planning program that provides birth control and other services to 4 million low-income people. The revised rule, which was due to take effect May 3, would make any facility that provides or refers patients for abortions ineligible for Title X funding. It has faced several challenges since it was announced in February. Earlier this week, a federal judge in Oregon heard arguments in a lawsuit brought by a 21-state coalition and said he planned to at least block part of the rule. Arguments have also been heard in Maine and California in recent weeks.
