Bidens step down as directors of cancer initiative
Joe and Jill Biden have stepped down as directors from the Biden Cancer Initiative, the foundation announced Thursday, as the former vice president formally launched his 2020 presidential campaign. “While our time and focus will be redirected for the foreseeable future, we are glad that the work of the Biden Cancer Initiative will not just continue but — we trust, with your guidance — it will thrive,” the couple wrote to the cancer organization’s staff in a letter. Since leaving the White House, Biden has spearheaded several biomedical research initiatives, and he founded the cancer foundation— an independent spinoff of the Obama administration's cancer moonshot — as “a response to the lack of a cohesive, comprehensive and timely approach to cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis, research, and care.”
