Americans are slowly getting better about exercise
More Americans are on the move, according to new CDC statistics. HHS’ 2008 guidelines for physical activity recommended that Americans get at least 2.5 hours of moderate-intensity aerobic activity a week and do muscle-strengthening exercises at least twice a week. Since then, the percentage of adults meeting the guidelines went from around 18% to nearly 25% in 2017. Other subgroups, including both urban and rural residents and college-educated adults, also demonstrated an increase in physical activity. There is still room for improvement, the report’s authors say, and communities can improve how they’re designed as well as provide better access to recreational facilities to encourage people to be active.
