Colorado bans conversion therapy
Colorado became the 18th state late last week to ban conversion therapy for minors. The state is now the fourth this year — following Maine, New York, and Massachusetts — to prohibit the controversial practice that aims to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender expression. Under the new law, licensed medical professionals will no longer be able to offer conversion therapy — which typically includes talk therapy, but has also included aversion therapy and electric shock therapy — to minors. Opponents of the practice, which include major psychological groups, have denounced the practice as harmful, as it has been linked to an increase in suicides, depression, and drug use among teenagers.
