This 25-page report presents the results of the third round of the external quality assessment on antimicrobial susceptibility testing for national public health laboratories for Campylobacter (Campylobacter EQA3-AST) within the Food- and Waterborne Diseases and Zoonoses Network (FWD-Net). It is part of a European Union protocol for harmonized monitoring of antimicrobial resistance in human Salmonella and Campylobacter isolates. Campylobacteriosis, followed by salmonellosis, is the leading cause of zoonotic foodborne diseases in the European Union/European Economic Area. (PDF)

This 111-page report examines occurrences of institutionalization of people with disabilities, as well as threats of institutionalization that were thwarted, in 2017 and 2018, including during Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria, Florence, and Michael, and the California wildfires. This report examines how, when, and why people with disabilities were institutionalized during and after recent disasters, and provides recommendations and promising practices that would enable federal agencies to eliminate institutionalization of persons with disabilities during future disasters. This brief provides an overview of the status of the health care systems and Medicaid programs in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) about one and a half years after Hurricanes Irma and Maria struck the islands in September 2017. Since the storms, the territories’ Medicaid programs have served as important resources for addressing residents’ health care needs, but they have operated under longstanding financing challenges. This brief focuses on these challenges and includes analysis of the implications for the territories’ Medicaid program finances, as most of the temporary federal Medicaid funds provided through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and disaster relief are set to expire at the end of September 2019. ASPIRE (Algorithm Suggesting Proportionate Incident Response Engagement) is a prototype decision aiding tool developed by experts in medicine and emergency response to help identify the need for patients exposed to chemical agents to undertake wet decontamination. It is a tool for Primary Response Incident Scene Management (PRISM), which provides authoritative, evidence-based guidance on mass casualty disrobe and decontamination during a chemical incident.
