Inside STAT: China is leapfrogging the U.S. in using AI in medicine
From virtual clinics to software that analyzes medical images to deliver diagnoses, China is home to companies that are pushing boundaries when it comes to applying artificial intelligence in health care settings. One company, WeDoctor, has set up an online hospital that does 90,000 consultations daily, while the medical imaging company Infervision uses more than 1 million images in its database to make more than 33,000 lung cancer and other lung disease diagnoses every day. With the Chinese government also backing the work, AI — with a special health care focus — is poised to become a $150 billion industry there in the next 10 years.
