Drugs have side effects. And companies sometimes hide them
Concealing evidence has been on trend for the pharmaceutical industry this week. Between Purdue’s potential $12 billion settlement for its role in perpetuating the nation’s opioid crisis, Eli Lilly secretly paying victims $20 million to sway a trial outcome, and Merck downplaying the suicidality and sexual dysfunction that can come with taking the baldness drug Propecia, this was most certainly a rough one.
Politicians and the general populace are increasingly demanding transparency from drug makers. Guess what? This is why.
