An estimated 20% of Americans have donated to a crowdfunding campaign for health bills
According to a small new survey, an estimated 20% of Americans have donated to a crowdfunding campaign for help paying health bills. Here's more:
- The survey: The nonpartisan National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago surveyed a little over 1,000 American adults about donating to or setting up crowdfunding campaigns for medical costs.
- Launched campaigns: The actual numbers of those who reported starting a campaign is low, but based on these numbers, NORC researchers estimate that 8 million Americans had ever started a campaign for themselves or someone in their household.
- Donations: Based on the survey results, NORC researchers also estimate that 20% of Americans — or 50 million — have donated to a campaign that would have helped someone pay medical bills, most often a friend.
