Surgeons report high career satisfaction, but disparities remain in work-life balance

survey of more than 3,800 U.S. surgeons analyzed career satisfaction and the split of work-life responsibilities between men and women, and found that although career satisfaction is high among both groups, women still shoulder more responsibilities at home. Here's more:
  • Career satisfaction: 77% of women surgeons reported being happy with their jobs, compared to 82% of men. Half of women reported work interrupting their personal lives, compared to 45% of men.
  • Home life: A much higher proportion of women said they were primarily responsible for making meals as well as housekeeping.
  • Work-life policies: Similar proportions of men and women said their workplace offered formal leave, but only about 1 in 6 said their job offered on-site daycare.
